HISTORY OF “BELLA”
1965 VW SPLITSCREEN
13 WINDOW MICROBUS
“Bella” was made in the VW Factory in Hanover Germany on Wednesday 24th November 1965 she was then exported on Friday 3rd December 1965 to St Louis USA.
Over the next 31 years “Bella” travels west across the United States but I can find no history of this part of Bella’s life.Until on Saturday 22ND June 1996 Bella was registered for use in San Diego California.
On Saturday 20th July 2002 “Bella” was bought by Dan Lin and she was then used around Ventura California until June 2004 when she was taken off the road. She then was stud unused until March 2nd 2006 when she was placed “FOR SALE” on the internet The asking price $4000
On Monday 23rd July 2007 I contacted Dan Lin about buying “Bella” and after a few emails and a phone call the deal was done.
I contacted my Shipping agent to arrange to have “Bella” collected so she can come to her new home. Then on Friday 17th August 2007 She started her long journey to the UK .
On Thursday 27th September 2007 she set sail to the UK on the Container ship the Imorex II ERTS in Container number APHU4627340
Bella arrives at Felixstowe docks UK on Wednesday 3rd October 2007
After clearing customs she was ready for collection so on Thursday October 11th 2007 I travelled to Felixstowe docks and bought “Bella” to her new home.
Bella went under a full restoration and a year to the day 3rd October 2008 was ready for the road and looking good as new
The name “BELLA” comes from a sticker that was inside the bus when it came from the USA which was for “Marbella surfboard”.....
